Red Painted Wooden Barn Facade with Tools, 18th-20th Century
Small barns like this once dotted the landscape. In some cases these were supplementary structures to much larger structures. Often the earliest outbuildings would be left unpainted, but once commercial paints were readily available many were painted with white lead or iron oxide red paint. By the late 20th century the idea of an old red barn became rather nostalgic and as each one fell to time the loss would be noted in the community.
Our version was hand patterned from wood, and then molds were made to duplicate it in high quality Urethane resin. Each one is hand painted to simulate the natural weathering of iron oxide paint on a typical farm building. We included the beam and hook to attach the block and rope that is included with this barn. We intentionally designed a small structure that would not dominate your display area, while still providing a focal point that is perfect for both civilian and military displays. The barn measures 8 ½” wide X 9” tall X 3” deep to the very end of the beam protruding above the loft door. To keep costs down this version has non-functional doors that appear to be slightly open. Made in the USA.
Also included with the Barn Facade is a set of farm tools often associated with building and maintenance on the farm. The saw, axe, adze, drawknife, and shave horse are tools for woodworking projects. The grinding wheel would help keep tools sharp, while the pulley would help move items in various tasks. The ladder would be only one of several types and lengths, and the stool and pail would be essential in the cow shed. Although most of these items are now only of interest to collectors, they were once important tools on every farm from the 18th until the mid-20th century.

Farm Tools, 18th-19th Century, Set No.1
This set of typical farm tools is comprised of basic equipment that were most often used to carry out daily chores about the farm. This includes a stone boat that resembles a sled, used to move heavy items short distances, and an always useful wheelbarrow. A scythe, sickle, pitchforks, winnowing tray, and wooden grain shovel are a direct connection to the crops, while a pick and shovel are a nod to other tasks. Tools like this have been ubiquitous on farms in one form or another from the late 17th century until the mid-20th century.

Barrels, 18th-20th Century Wet and Dry Cooperage
The cooper’s craft of barrel making was an early and long-standing one. Wooden cooperage was common in the Roman Empire and one of the earliest depictions of a wooden tub dates back even further to 2600 BC. Traditionally there are three types of cooperage: white, dry, and wet. White cooperage consists of straight-sided items such as butter churns, buckets, and tubs of various sizes and often made of pine or oak. Dry cooperage are kegs and casks for dry goods and may not be watertight or waterproof. Wet cooperage consists of barrels that are precisely crafted to be water tight. Smaller containers were generally referred to as kegs, while larger containers were called casks and could be rolled. The name barrel is often used today to describe any size container, although in historic terms this would be a 36 gallon cask.
