A military deception is an attempt by any fighting unit to gain an advantage during battle by misleading an adversary into taking action (or inaction) that creates favorable conditions for the deceiving force. The Zulu army famously employed the “Horns of the Buffalo” feint to lure the opposition into a predetermined killing zone and annihilate them. The ruse would cause the enemy to concentrate its resources to an unfavorable location at an inopportune time. This soldier is in the middle of one such deception but is still tasked with the specific mission of personal force protection. It is vitally important he maintain situational awareness even if he finds his particular situation bleak.
