During WWII each U.S. Army Armored Division was made up of 3 Armored Infantry Battalions, 3 Tank Battalions, 3 Artillery Battalions, and 1 Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. This soldier armed with the semiautomatic .30 Caliber M1 Garand could represent an Armored Infantryman of the 27th Armored Infantry Battalion, the 52d Armored Infantry Battalion or the 60th Armored Infantry Battalion of the 9th Armored Division. The Rifle Company was the main maneuver unit of the Armored Infantry Battalion and was made up of the Company Headquarters, 3 Rifle Platoons, 1 Anti-tank Platoon, and an attached medical vehicle. A company was commanded by a Captain and normally consisted of 251 soldiers.
