UPCOMING RELEASE - AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER ONLY.
Once a soldier was hit and severely wounded he might lay out on the battlefield for hours, if not days, until his comrades or bandsmen could evacuate him from the field. If not immediately cleared from the front, he would be subject to the elements: cold nights or the blazing sun; saturating rains or arid winds; predatory animals ready to feast on the fallen. However, once cleared, his suffering was far from over. He may have to wait hours outside a makeshift field hospital before being seen by an over-extended surgeon whose first course of action was invariably amputation. It was a radical but quick procedure allowing for the next unfortunate to be placed on the bloody operating table.
